Join the Soundscape (marksearch)

2021.04.23

To mark the 10-year anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, 2 artist families, one Japanese, the other American, embark on Tabi Wa Sumika / Journey Itself Home, the creation of sound memorials from recorded Fukushima Disaster survivor stories. These ‘sonic haiku’ about adaptation, hope and the meaning of home will form mobile sound memorials modeled after Tohoku disaster monuments (seki hi).

In recognition of our ongoing and challenging pandemic times, this NichiBei artist team is inviting a wide public to share stories for their growing soundscape:

+ What is on your mind right now?
+ What sounds bring you strength?
+ What sounds bring you a sense of safety?

Please respond to these questions with sound, video, text or drawings—they welcome all formats! Post on social media using the hashtag #tabiwasumika or email them: tabiwasumika@gmail.com. Your contributions may appear on their website, social media or public presentations!
